My 2012 Race Schedule

Last year I signed up for a few races and despite some challenges, I did surprisingly well. I ran legs 5,17,29 of the Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay. I ran the Super Spartan adventure race with a time of 1:40 which I'm pretty proud of considering all the obstacles and hills. I ran the Las Vegas Ragnar in October and the 7 mile run at midday with no water stations about killed me!

After doing these races with very little training, I decided now's the time to begin working toward something I've had on my bucket list for awhile. Finishing an Ironman Triathlon. 2.5 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run.

To get me started toward this goal I laid out a race schedule last fall and signed up for about 8 races and I've been adding more as I go. Now I'm registered for 11 or 12. Here's my 2012 Race Schedule.

-Canyonlands Half Marathon (Moab,UT 3/17) 2:18

-Salt Lake City Half Marathon (SLC,UT 4/21) 1:53

-Color Me Rad 5k (Orem, UT 4/23) fun run

-Ogden Half Marathon (Ogden, UT 5/19) Goal <1:45

-Salem Spring Sprint Triathlon (Salem, UT 6/2) My first Tri ever

-Dirty Dash 10k mud run (Midway, UT 6/2) Running this immediately after my Tri

-Utah Valley Marathon (Provo, UT 6/9) My first Marathon ever

-Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay (Wasatch Mtns, UT 6/15-16) Legs 11, 23, 35

-Rock Cliff Olympic Triathlon (Heber, UT 6/23)

-Spartan Beast (Midway, UT 6/30) 12+mile adventure race

-Utah Half Triathlon (Provo, UT 8/25) Half Ironman distance Tri

-Red Rock Relay (St. George, UT 9/7-8)

-Top of Utah Marathon (Logan, UT 9/15)

-St. George Marathon (St. George, UT 10/6) if I'm selected in the lottery

-Tough Mudder (Tooele, UT 10/13) 10.1 mile adventure mud run w/obstacles

Looks like my math was all wrong. So far I have 15 races there. I'll have to add some races during July too. This is going to be an exciting year for me of building up lots of endurance, eating right and changing my body entirely. Last year at this time I was around 205 lbs and had more muscle on me too. Right now I'm at 188 lbs with a target weight of 170. I'm working to lean up as much as I can without losing too much muscle. I'm running between 30-50 miles a week right now so hitting the weights at the gym is super important so I can retain the muscle mass I have.

Next year I'll be incorporating more bike races into my schedule and would like to do Lotoja and some Century rides. Hopefully I'll be ready to compete in an Ironman Full distance race in 2014. Then the question will be after completing the Ironman... Do I want to put myself through this again? Hmmm
